“Unequal distribution of attention, legitimacy and institutional opportunity”
Let's distinguish all three.
Attention
How much notice something receives.
Example:
Interpretation A is discussed at 30 conferences.
Interpretation B is discussed at 2.
A receives more attention.
Legitimacy
Whether the academic community regards something as a proper or credible scholarly position.
For example:
“This is a serious argument worth debating.”
versus:
“This isn't legitimate scholarship.”
Institutional opportunity
Access to things such as:
grants;
jobs;
publication;
conferences;
research facilities;
teaching positions.
So you could have:
freedom of expression and unequal attention and unequal legitimacy and unequal institutional opportunity.
