Historical revision versus political rewriting

They are not the same.

Scholarly revision:

New evidence then new analysis then revised interpretation.

Political rewriting:

Political objective then selective presentation then suppression/minimization of inconvenient evidence then preferred historical narrative.

For example, if historians discover new archival evidence about Tipu Sultan and revise their assessment because of that evidence, that is legitimate historical revision.

If a government deliberately removes unfavorable material from textbooks while retaining favorable material, that is political rewriting.

The important criterion is evidence and methodological transparency, not whether the resulting interpretation is new.
