Influence does not automatically determine truth

Example:

A government funds research supporting a policy.

Possibilities:

• the research is correct,
• the research is incorrect.

Funding alone does not decide the issue.

Likewise:

A researcher may have no obvious interests.

Yet their conclusion may still be wrong.

Truth and influence are connected questions but not identical questions.
