Should historians read sociology, economics, anthropology, political science and law?

Ideally, yes when those disciplines are relevant to the historical question.

A historian studying the emergence of capitalism might reasonably consult:

history,

economics,

sociology,

political science,

law,

anthropology.

But this does not mean every historian must read everything in every discipline.

It means interdisciplinary research becomes important when the research question crosses disciplinary boundaries.
