Why theological schools differ

Different theological schools may differ because they disagree about questions such as:

• How should reason and revelation relate?
• How should ambiguous texts be interpreted?
• Which sources have the highest authority?
• How should apparent conflicts between sources be resolved?

Once those methodological commitments differ, conclusions may also differ even when scholars begin with the same scripture.
