A philosophical position is a claim about how history works, not merely about one historical event.

For example:

History is driven primarily by economic forces.

That is a philosophical position.

Another is:

Human history is fundamentally contingent.

That is also a philosophical position.

These are frameworks for interpreting many historical events, not just one.
