Astroturfing 

Political marketing through grass root campaigning 

·        Political marketing consultant undertakes this form of advocacy to promote his agenda of his party (opposition or in power); he disguises his manipulation of public opinion as an independent public reaction to the message. Astroturfing is the word play that gives the appearance of a grassroots movement that in reality is opposed to spontaneous undertaking sustained by independent individuals. Political marketing consultant hires highly organized professional groups or provides secret funds to independent media channels to be grass root campaigners or pay individuals to give required answers if questions are believed to be provoking angry responses so that beneficiary can be his ‘distant’ organization which then can claim to have ample support for his agenda. .
