Untitled people, Soft Revolution, points to

Conceived and worded by DR Sohail Ansari (originality of
concepts and originality of words).
He believes that there can never be a zero scope for
improvement and appreciates criticism if it is not for the sake of criticism.

You are
in love with an individual, if he looks good to you without sufficient reasons.

New
lies must replace old ones before latter outlive their utility. You can not

Untitled people

‘Greatness cannot be conferred as it is not a prize’; it is
an achievement achieved through one’s contribution that itself becomes possible
because of one’s altruism. ‘Greatness is not and can never be the result of
one’s rank in human affairs’. Greatness is a measure of one’s nobleness; and
work is a measure of one’s greatness. We confuse popularity with greatness when
we call those people great those have ‘obtained fame outside their own merit’,
and therefore, we understandably fail to meet great people in the most obscure
roles in life.
Soft
revolution
·
Soft revolution means
achieving goal by combined pressure from below and from above. The success of
pressure from above depends on the outside relation of forces; but the mass
movement should not be engineered for the so-called peaceful transition to
democracy; and there should not be any planting in government as the means of
subversion from outside.
Points to ponder
·
I am often told that no evidence can change my mind as
anything that goes against my thesis is, as I think, the part of the conspiracy
theory. Problem is that, things I have listened so far are obviously the part
of the conspiracy theory for the obvious reasons that that they are so
ludicrous that they are not even worth thinking. Thing does not become right if
it goes against one’s thesis or person does not become the holder of conspiracy
theory if he rejects something stupid.
·
Effective propaganda makes one feels ‘the enemy’ or ‘the
friend’; neither exist.
Quote

Unhappiness of ours is often because of our mistaken means
of achieving it.

Analysis:
Setting in the picture of ‘Law and
order’ helps audience to visualize the delivery and the person who delivers, as
the text ‘Nawaz delivers’ cues our understanding that delivery hinges upon the
Nawaz, connoted by recognizable people in a known social situation, with out
emphasizing the act of delivery. At denotative level, this picture has no
meaning: Nawaz appears to be reprimanding the police officer, but why? And why
is he in police station? And what it has to do with law and order? All this is
very unclear. At connotative level, however, the message is very powerful:
Nawaz delivers justice_ the most elusive thing in Pakistan_ he sets free the
innocent from the police lock-up and gets the culprits arrested. The ad applies
social and legal code; in Pakistan there is a culture of impunity, powerful
flout the law with the connivance of police; police is riddle with corruption_
notorious for putting the innocent behind the bar, and let the big wigs go_
often even the complaint of weaker party is not lodged. The presence of Prime
minister in police station and the way he is admonishing the police officer
conveys two things:
His desire to balm with the poultice
of his presence the bruised people subjected to police tyranny; his resolve to
cleanse police from such malpractices and venality. In the second picture a
very balanced relationship is established between the one who delivers and
other who is recipient. The setting serves as the interpretation of the place
where the service being delivered, as the people recognizable due to Sindhi cap
stand around.
This picture applies political and
cultural code; land belongs to feudal or big landlords but Haris, despite, all
labor, eke out a meager existence; entitled to have only those things required
to subsist on, not to mention ownership of land. The act of giving land from
the man belonging to Punjab Province and has an industrial back ground have
important political and social ramifications for the Nawaz and the Sindh
politics.
This act is reminiscent of famous
land reforms of Prime minister Z.A Bhutto who of respect, gratitude and
popularity. The projection of this act intended to help Nawaz get a foothold in
the strong hold of PPP because the great work of Z.A Bhutto seems to be
paralleled by this act; communicating an impression that politician of Punjab
is highly concerned about the people of Sindh_ as contrary to image prevalent
about the politician of Punjab in Sindh_ and even though he has the industrial
back ground, he is not oblivious of the problem of Haris.
Politics belong to feudal because lands belong
to them. The people living or working on or near to their lands have to vote
them otherwise face the music. Distribution of land among Haris would make them
economically independent and this independence would lead to political
independence; thus putting in the long run a lasting dent on the power of
landlords; whose benefits would go to non feudal politicians. In third picture;
the idea of service is conveyed through the display of the service in a context
where it is delivered. The people who are inserted into the scene remain
undefined in the text of ad; but the occasion provides the unifying idea as the
leader, people, service and settings are harmonized around a unified impression
of the leader who delivers; no other information is really necessary nor given
in ad.; because the ads provides a direct vision of service.
These three picture blends perfectly with
the text ‘on October…leader’.
NEGATIVES:
Text mentions two main services of Nawaz
which have launched Pakistan into the 21st century: ‘Policies of
deregulation and economic reforms.’ Deregulate means according to the Oxford
Advanced Learner’s Dictionary ‘decontrolling or to free a trade, a business
activity from rules and controls.’ Freeing a trade means laissez-faire economy
which logically spells greater reduction in red-tapping; but none of the
picture explains what happens as the result of deregulation; text can only be
matched with visual by the stretch of the imagination or by putting two and two
together at best: that due to regulation progress in industry and agriculture
occurred; but it would sound very bizarre to say that due to deregulation
motorway came into being or Yellow taxis scheme was introduced.
Laissez-faire approach to economy
could easily be encapsulated in a number of ways; best be the picture of a
business man enjoying the access portrayed in having friendly chats with
officers) to higher authority. No doubt, the word ‘economic reform’ is
all-embracing term, which includes all kinds of reforms; however, it should be
remembered that economic reform means reform in economy not in agriculture or
in legal system otherwise the word ‘reform’ should be used not ‘economic
reform.’ Furthermore, if due to reform industrialization occurred then it is
wrong because:
(a)
Industrialization started since the country came
into being.
(b) Industrialization
is the process and reform occurs within it to spur this process; due to reform
industrialization does not start; and even if the ad means due to reform the
industrialization started then the word reform is not so appropriate it should
be replaced with initiative that ‘due to Nawaz’s initiative industrialization
began.’ One more possible meaning can be deduced that factories which got
closed due to the wrong polices of previous governments, due to reforms of
Nawaz’s government started to open; then, there should be picture like the
closed doors juxtaposed with open ones. Yellow taxi scheme was the scheme to
help people start work as the driver. Can it be called reform? Same can be said
for Motor way which was the project launched and completely by Nawaz’
government.
