·       Homes have always been an important key to decipher people. Homes are the extension of the souls of people who live in them: everything in home means something; everything is revealing of something about the people living among them. I often hear of losing this important key; people called interior decorator decorate homes; therefore, as people say, focusing on the decorations, the furniture and the items is of no any use anymore. No interior decorator is permitted to give a free rein to his imagination; every interior decorator indulges client’s every desire; applying his craft to things of home so that things can embody the people living among them.

Analysis:

The picture of women wearing sheet is the representations of abstract qualities such as ‘sanctity’ symbolized by sheet. Picture seemed to capture the Islamic values and internalize them within the women image. The ‘only bastion of sanctity’ means that Islamic Democratic alliances can serve\help women to maintain their eastern\Islamic ways intact. This ad applies multiplicity of codes: social; cultural; religious and political codes. One must know the history of Islam and Indo-Pak; and what ‘Daughter of West’ means; otherwise one would never follow the ad.

At denotative level ad states the contribution of women which can be easily understood of one has awareness about history; while at connotative level one sees the operation of the logic of associative transfer of value in which the human element is used as the symbol of abstract values which are in danger. Who is daughter of West? And why she wants to violate the sanctity of woman? At the denotative level, no answer is given; but at the connotative level, however, the answer is quite unmistakable and powerful.

Benazir Bhutto is called ‘The daughter of East’ East in ad is replaced by West to imply that Benazir represents West not East; Western values not Islamic; and intends to promote Western culture antitheses to Islamic one in which women do not cover themselves in modest way; and Islamic Democratic alliance as the protector of Islamic and Eastern values would foil any such attempt.
