says #curious things#
·
Socrates said in Plato’s Republic: ‘It is curious that one would not
entrust the work of making shoes to one who has not spent a good part of his
life in acquiring this skill, but legislation and political decisions are
considered to be safe in the hands of those who do not know the elements of
statecraft and are devoid of the knowledge of human nature and human destiny’.
If Socrates is right then everybody must do that work that he knows or in other
word he has learnt how to do it. Bright children will learn the subject of law,
psychology and sociology in universities to be politicians; and only studious type
then can be politicians.
Politicians
are extrovert; they learn about people from people (they learn from people their
problems so that they can solve them); they can tap the technocrats for the legislation
of laws and as they are by people so they are fully alive to the needs of
people, and as they are for people they ensure on the one hand, that
legislation reflect general aspiration, and on the other hand, it is executed in
its true spirit. I wonder what Socrates may say about the supervisor of a
factory because supervisor only needs to be good to ensure that skills and
energies of labor are properly channeled.
