 Research Methodology vs Research Design

 

There is a significant difference between research methodology and research design. There are three basic methodologies used in any research paper i.e. Quantitative Methods, Qualitative  Methods and mixed method (Quantitative and qualitative both). Each Method have many tools and techniques to handle the research. Quantitative methods are used to collect, organize and analyze numerical data. Quantitative methods are called scientific approach or statistical approach to handle numbers in research. Qualitative methods are used to collect information, knowledge, and opinion. It includes Focus group discussion, In depth interviews, ranking techniques, mapping exercise etc. Research Methodology defines a general framework for your research explaining that WHY you have selected the specific method for your research.

ON THE OTHER HAND, Research design is a specific framework for your research. It explains that  HOW you will use the selected methodology in the research. In research design, variables and actors are specified on which the selected methodology will be applied.
