#Minor
Revision#
·
Philosophy is criticized if neither things are as they were seen
nor going to be. Criticism, however, may be regarded as no more than a changed
attitude, arising from the force of facts, towards the tempo of the historical
process, a process at the end of which, now as before, stands the same
philosophy. Criticism of this kind does not go beyond the minor revision,
therefore, does not by any means imply the breakup of the philosophy.
We
are never defeated
·
When any philosophy fails; for example, when socialism failed
and failed conclusively, all its apologists transferred the justification of
the struggle for socialism from the world of what is into the world of what
ought to be. For all these apologists socialism had become both postulate and
program, if not the scientific recognition of the laws of historical
development. Every failed philosophy contains within it, interestingly, the capacity
for becoming postulate.
