Dear Muslims:

·     Prophet (P.B.U.H) said ‘There will be more people in concert hall listening to music than in a mosque worshipping to God. Buy ticket of a music show if you love your prophet, otherwise his prophecy can go wrong, and if prophet turns out to be false, Islam is doomed.

Predicament of the people of good grades

·     We learn in our school that man cannot live up to work, if he has not the attitude for it. We are told that we cannot have the good grades, if we do not develop an attitude for study; we, therefore, develop the love for study so that we can have the study for the sake of study. The importance of an attitude is so hammered into us, that we begin to believe that doing justice to an activity is impossible without it, we, consequently, grow into people of attitude having the attitude for everything. When we are unhappy, we develop love for our unhappiness so that we look genuinely unhappy. We do justice to our unhappiness, but this justice ‘makes less sophisticated people suspicious of its genuineness; these fools think that man who enjoys being miserable is not miserable.’

Revolutions do not happen  

·     ‘Revolutions, like accidents do not happen; they are caused. More often than not they come as a result either of neglected reforms or of reforms applied too late’. Engineered revolutions are as well caused. They come in response to belated thoughts to address the neglect toward reforms or applying reforms too early. More often than not engineered revolutions are counter revolutions, they come to protect neglect and maintain sta.tus quo. 

Knowledge of nothing is the knowledge anyhow  

·     A great detective always finds something to investigate. He having found that a person knows nothing investigates nothing because he knows that if a person knows nothing so it means he knows that he knows nothing. 

Dissemination is a slip, a cutting of a vine  

·     The controlled transmissions of one-sided loaded cues manipulate cognition for intended synthesis. This selective presentation is lying by omission. Every information dissemination strategies become propaganda when coupled with propagandistic message. This is propaganda not information; this is not the gardeners’ practice to disseminate plants by planting shoots.

Points to ponder  

·     I read in history that the public’s accurate perception has never been countered, it has simply been supplanted: big lie generalizations merge with truth through the repeated articulation of a complex of events that justify subsequent action.

·     Every revolutionary theory is to withstand the test by the active politicians who devote most thoughts to it and either take social conditions into account by rethinking it or discard it because of their failure to relate it to actual realties.

·     Propaganda dehumanizes an individual so that people can feel hatred or humanizes so that people can feel love.  Careful selection of derogatory terms can dehumanize a good human being and unscrupulous sanitization and careful avoidance can help scourge of humanity maintain his human touch.

Analysis:

Ad is textually orientated and places greatest emphasis upon language; description of services and vision. ‘Safe guard against mortgaging the future of children by reducing the National Debt and prudent management of public finances’ and to ‘provide economic right to food, clothing…’

This ad applies social, political and economic code and should be read in the backdrop of early 1990s; when the I.M.F had acquired a virtual stranglehold on the economy; specter of insolvency was stalking through Pakistan; and dark pessimism, gnawing at the soul of country created social miasma of depression made the people of Pakistan desperate for any political messiah. In this context, the dangling of such rosy prospects (offered by social contract) literary transform this ad into a beacon of hope the harbinger of a new dawn where the future of nation in general ‘New social contract’ which among other things’ and of children in particular ‘safe guarding against the mortgaging the future of our children..’ would not be in jeopardy. The ‘pledge to protect…’ will be translated into reality by ‘reducing the national Debt…’

The new social contract ‘food, cloth and shelter’ is the new slogan retread: ‘food/bread, cloth, and shelter/home’ was the slogan of ZA Bhutto’s PPP and served as the rallying cry that time, and now three more things: ‘health education and employment’ are added to avoid just simple rehashing and bring home to electorates that PPP is alive to the cotemporary problems as well. This incorporation refurbishes the old but popular slogan in a way that echoes of past continue to reverberate into it; serving at connotative level one very important function: this vow of allegiance would brush aside the allegation that PPP has departed from the values that form the bedrock of the PPP’s ideological support, and deflate the propaganda of her being divided into old and new; new PPP__ driven by sheer expediencies and not inspired by any socialist gospel__ came into being when Benazir, according to her detractor, bargained all she stands for away for being anointed as Prime Minster in 1988 by the avowed holder of Zia’s legacy; and after being booted by him began to oppose him vehemently until he sacked the government of Nawaz and, then without any moral qualm Benazir began to enjoy his tacit support. This reaffirmation implies that PPP adheres to same values, and what happened in 1988 was not the manifestation of self-aggrandizement but the political give and take; and in political no one is eternal friend or enemy; the important and permanent things are value which PPP continues to cherish.  

NEGATIVES:

No services regarding the “prudent management of public finance’ or nurturing of ‘most precious asset’ during the 20-months of PPP rule is mentioned to lend credibility to the claims of ad. The sentences for the basic economic right to Food…..’economic right is usually the right to have employment; but other rights are classified as the birth rights not as the economic rights. One sentences is vague ‘we shall hand over the birth right of our children intact’. Child is entitled to have a claim over a certain things due to being born in

a certain place or family; now which right this ad means as it mentions economic rights only and to whom it will and hand over? Perhaps ad means that because IMF has held the resources of country hostage therefore, presumably, before long, the children of Pakistan will be stopped to be benefited from the resources of this country? But PPP will protect (intact) these rights. All this is not clear.
